Dr. Philippe Bastiaens,
European Molecular Biology Laboratory, Heidelberg, Germany
Philippe Bastiaens received his Ph.D. in 1992 in the biochemistry department of the University in Wageningen, the Netherlands. His thesis topic was on time-resolved spectroscopy of biomolecules in solution. He did his post-doctoral work at the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry in Goettingen with special attention to microspectroscopic imaging of signal transduction processes in cells. From 1997 he was group leader of the Cell Biophysics Laboratory at the Imperial Cancer Research Fund in London, and in 2000 he became a group leader at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory in the Cell Biology/Biophyscis program. Dr Bastiaens has a chair in 4D microscopic imaging living cells at the University of Amsterdam. His current interest is directed towards mapping biochemical reactions in cells by using far field optical methods.
