Confocal Imaging in Development Biology The spatial relationship between Myosin IIB (red) and Xenopus fibrillin (XF-green) proteins during early vertebrate development: XF is found surrounding the somites, while myosin IIB is found in the cortex of the cells comprising the somites (left). In contrast, in the notochord XF is found in a medium-angle fiber-winding pattern (30 to 40 degrees), distinct from the low-angle fiber-winding pattern exhibited by myosin IIB (near 0 degrees, relative to the direction orthogonal to the direction of extension-bottom) (Raymond Keller, Biology, UVA).
